i've been lazy - here's a picture update!  from early june to late july...i think they're more or less in order?

paris
panasaya, allison and chris came to visit!!  we met in paris, then they came to tour several cities in switzerland

wine tasting + buying, followed by a picnic immediately afterwards of said wine and sandwiches in a nearby park.  yum!

gruyères
the girls only requested one thing in switzerland - CHEESE- so i took them to gruyères, the most touristy cheese town i know!

raclette...mmmm.  served with potatoes, cornichons and pickled onions

interlaken
they went while i was at work one day...i've never been, but the pics are gorgeous!!

geneva
la terrasse (outdoor bar next to the lake)  |  xavier, kelley, me@misuji

panasaya, chris, allison  |  thierry and deborah

white&blackcruise
work sponsored a dinner cruise on lac leman  |  fun night with good food/company/music

seb&the american girls  |  kelley, laurent, me

chateau de chillon  |  swiss flag at dusk

annecy
my favorite french lake city...it's so cute!  plus thierry took us to the best gelato place ever, so now i have another reason to go back.

watched the july14th (french nat'l holiday) fireworks after eating a yummy kebab, then played with the fireworks mode on my camera

boston!

i love boston...maybe i'll move there after switz - who knows?!
met alex there
saw nas/bryce/val/allison & co
went to ellen&jarrod's lovely wedding as alex's date
ate dimsum (no chicken feet or tripe)
and did some shopping, of course

the end.

marrakech.morocco

the crew - nicole, me, priscilla, kelley, samad, and thierry

we set out for marrakech on fri night, barely caught the train to basel after work, and ironically ended up waiting two hours at the airport because the plane was late.   i was worried that nicole (coming from barcelona and meeting us at the airport) wouldn't find us, but thankfully she was waiting outside of customs even though we landed at 2am!!  phew.

i loooooved our riad - lots of open spaces, nice courtyard, and very close to the medina

kelley, thierry, and priscilla at breakfast  |  the boys smoking hookah  |  thé a la menthe (sweet moroccan mint tea) - poured from above because the bubbles signify respect for the recipient

thierry and a snake friend  |  koutoubia mosque

carpet makers  |  samad was enticed into the shop by the promise of free mint tea

the souk.  four girls = lots of shopping

apparently it's illegal to keep turtles as pets in france!  |  surprisingly none of us bought a carpet

djemaa el-fna  |  this guy was offering teeth removal services with pliers!!!  he displayed his tooth collection at the front of his table and yelled at me when i tried to take a pic, so i snuck one from behind

caleche (a bit stinky, but fun!)  |  thierry jumped out of the moving carriage to take this pic...haha

jardin majorelle - loved the bright colors, fountains, and vegetation

djemaa el fna at night - tons of market stands with yummy, cheap food

arabic soda cans  |  menara pavilion  |  more thé a la menthe

our one goal for the trip was to ride a camel, and we found one!  his name was michael - you can buy him for only 3000 euros!!  |  one of them tried to bite me...

overall impression...good food, hammams, and mint tea.  it's better to travel with guys due to the harassment from local men.  stray cats and trash on the streets are abundant.  french is useful, bargaining is required, and never accept more than half of the orig price!  i'd definitely go to morocco again - maybe a coastal city like essaouira next time
